Abstract

Since 2020, with the aim of strengthening education in the preservation of and access to digital content, the Faculty of Information and Communication of the University of the Republic (Udelar) incorporated into its curriculum the course Digital Collections, aimed at the degree programs in Archival Science and Library Science. This course developed an academic collaboration with the APEX Program through an Espacio de Formación Integral (EFI), focused on contributing to the preservation, access, and dissemination of the APEX Program Archive. This Program, with more than 32 years of experience and a strong territorial presence in Municipality A of Montevideo, has an archive made up of documents in paper, audiovisual, photographic, and sound formats, which constitute documentary heritage of high historical and social value. Although the collection has received previous archival interventions, the need was identified to further develop its treatment in accordance with the principles of Archival Science. The EFI is carried out under a participatory and interdisciplinary approach, integrating both theoretical and practical activities. Its main objectives include the practical training of students in digital collections applied to a community archive, the organization and inventorying of documentary fonds, the application of metadata standards, and the development of training activities.
