Code of Ethics

1. Approach and Scope

Starting in 2024, Informatio will be published as a journal by the Information Institute of the Faculty of Information and Communication (University of the Republic), releasing two issues annually under a continuous publication model. It aims to publish original and unpublished articles, research findings, theoretical studies, literature reviews, and academic discussions relevant to information science, librarianship, archival studies, and related fields, especially focusing on communication.

Papers from national and international specialists will be accepted, provided they significantly contribute to the state of the art in the disciplines covered by the journal.

The opinions expressed in the articles are the sole responsibility of the authors.

2. Open Access policy

This journal provides open access to its content based on the principle that offering the public free access to research enhances global knowledge exchange. Open access is immediate and applies to all content available on the electronic version of the journal's website. The journal permits its readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of its articles. Authors are NOT required to pay any fees for article review or publication in open access. Similarly, readers do not need to pay to download or reproduce articles.

The Informatio journal has endorsed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (https://sfdora.org/read/ ), advocating for a shift in the research evaluation system away from reliance solely on the impact factor. We believe that alternative methods of assessing research and researchers are necessary, prioritizing both the quality of the research and its publication. Therefore, we fully support this declaration.

3. Copyright notice

Authors publishing in this journal accept the following conditions:

  1. Authors retain the copyright to their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. The published work is registered under the international Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. This license permits third parties to use the published work, provided they acknowledge the authorship of the work and its initial publication in this journal.
  2. Authors can enter into separate additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the version of the article published in this journal. For instance, they may include it in an institutional repository or publish it in a book, provided they clearly indicate that the work was first published in this journal.
  3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to publish their work online (e.g., on institutional or personal websites) before and during the review and publication process. This practice can facilitate productive exchanges and promote wider and faster dissemination of the published work. For further details, see "The Effect of Open Access)".

4. Notification to reviewers

The editorial team is dedicated:

  • To guide reviewers throughout the review process. Likewise, reviewers are expected to treat the documents with appropriate confidentiality.
  • To request reviewers disclose potential conflicts of interest before agreeing to evaluate or review a manuscript.
  • To develop appropriate systems to ensure the protection of reviewers' identities.
  • To facilitate dialogue with reviewers so they feel comfortable exchanging views with the editor on ethical issues related to manuscript research and its originality. Reviewers should also consider if the publication is redundant or constitutes plagiarism.
  • To send all reviewers' comments to the authors.
  • To acknowledge the reviewers' valuable contributions to the journal. The reviewers' names and institutional affiliations will be published at the end of each year. Additionally, a certificate will be issued to acknowledge their participation in the review process.
  • To monitor the performance of reviewers and take proactive steps to ensure they consistently maintain high standards.
  • To develop and maintain a database of reviewers whose competence and expertise are recognized, updating it based on their performance.
  • To cease to contact reviewers who have conducted deficient, discourteous, or insufficient quality evaluations.

5. Peer review process

Informatio is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal, which entails the collaboration of external reviewers independent of the editorial team and the publishing institution. Each submitted article undergoes review by two reviewers with acknowledged expertise in the subject while preserving the author's identity. This publication is committed to ensuring that peer review in the journal is fair, impartial, and timely.

The reviewers evaluate each article based on its originality, rigor, academic relevance, and genuine contribution to the state of the art, using a form provided by the Editorial Board. If both reviewers provide positive evaluations, the article is accepted. Conversely, if both reviewers give negative opinions, the article is rejected. In cases where one reviewer gives a negative assessment, and the other provides a positive assessment, the article is sent to a third reviewer, whose opinion determines acceptance or rejection.

If an article receives a positive assessment with objections, it is returned to the author for revisions based on the reviewer's suggestions. The review process timeline, from article submission to final notification to the author, is six months.

We have mechanisms to ensure that material submitted for publication remains confidential during the evaluation process. Additionally, every care is taken to ensure the quality of the material published in each of its sections.

The editor will not use unpublished materials disclosed in a manuscript submitted for publication in his research without the author's express written consent. Similarly, information or ideas obtained through peer review will not be exploited for the editor's benefit.

The Informatio Journal has a specific process for handling manuscripts from professors of the Faculty of Information and Communication and members of the editorial and scientific committee to ensure an impartial review.

6. Journal policies on data sharing and reproducibility

Informatio adheres to open research data policies. The data underpinning and supporting the research results presented in each article are expected to be deposited in an appropriate public repository to be shared. Authors must: i) report data availability by citing it at the end of the References section, or ii) inform the absence of shared data.
The following repositories are suggested for the deposit of research data:
REDATA (repository of the National Agency for Research and Innovation (Agencia
Nacional de Investigación e Innovación, ANII) of Uruguay): https://redata.anii.org.uy/

Scielo Data (data repository of the Scielo platform): https://data.scielo.org/

  • Likewise, authors of criticized papers will be able to respond, while the journal is open to research that challenges previously published work.

This document is based on the guidelines provided by the Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Asociación Uruguaya de Revistas Académicas (AURA), available at https://aura.edu.uy/.
