Trends and advances in the implementation of linked open data in libraries: opportunities and challenges for Costa Rica

Keywords: BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS, LINKED OPEN DATA IN LIBRARIES, LIBRARY DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Abstract

A bibliometric analysis is presented on the scientific production related to the implementation of Linked Open Data in libraries, highlighting trends, key authors, recurrent topics and publication sources, with emphasis on the Costa Rican context. It is justified by the growing relevance of Linked Open Data in the digital transformation of libraries, despite its limited adoption in Latin America. The research is quantitative, exploratory and descriptive, based on the analysis of 98 documents selected from the Scopus database between 2010 and 2024. Tools such as RStudio software and the Bibliometrix package were used to analyze co-citation networks, keywords and productivity by authors and countries. The findings show a concentration of publications in the United States, Germany and Spain, with little Costa Rican participation. The most prominent terms are linked data, semantic web and open access. The study points out opportunities for Costa Rica in professional training, applied research and international collaboration. It concludes that Linked Open Data is a key technology for innovation in libraries, but its integration in Costa Rica requires overcoming technical barriers and strengthening institutional policies.
