In today's digital age, generative artificial intelligence (GAI) has emerged as a powerful tool revolutionizing how teaching and learning take place. This exploratory-descriptive study, with a qualitative approach, employs a case study design to analyze the effects of incorporating GAI into the teaching practices of fourth-year Library Science professors at the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of the National University of La Plata. Through in-depth interviews, the study reveals that, while teachers' experience with these technologies is still exploratory and cautious, they recognize potential for pedagogical innovation. Furthermore, the teacher's role is central to facilitating the integration of AI in the classroom, and their training is an essential area of focus for the future of the discipline.
2026-07-13T00:00:00+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://informatio.fic.edu.uy/index.php/informatio/article/view/588 Knowledge and Perception of Open Science at the National University of Córdoba: results of anI nstitutional Survey 2026-07-15T16:42:10+00:00 Alejandra Marcela Nardi amnardi@unc.edu.ar
The Open Knowledge Office (OCA), under the Secretariat of Science and Technology (SECyT) of the National University of Córdoba (UNC), Argentina, conducted a survey to assess the level of knowledge and perception that researchers held regarding Open Science. For this purpose, an online survey was designed and administered, obtaining 712 valid responses from faculty/researchers across 15 faculties, the Astronomical Observatory of Córdoba, the Mario Gulich Institute for Advanced Space Studies, and various units of the Rector's Office, as well as authorities and library staff. The results showed that, while 82.7% of participants had heard of the concept, the expressed knowledge was mostly superficial, with only 23.6% able to explain or teach it. The most recognized components were open access journals (82,6%) and institutional repositories (77,8%), whereas open research methodologies received significantly lower recognition levels. This article describes the institutional context of the OCA, the survey design and analysis process, and how its results drove the creation of the Open Science Advisory Council of the UNC in October 2025, a first step toward a comprehensive university policy on the subject.
2026-07-13T00:00:00+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://informatio.fic.edu.uy/index.php/informatio/article/view/585 Environmental information in the Brazilian Amazon: scientific output in the field of Information Science in the context of COP 30 2026-08-07T12:09:48+00:00 Suelene Santana Assunção suelene.1410@gmail.com Luciana Di Paula Andrade da Fonseca luciana.fonseca@unesp.br Franciele Marques Redigolo marques.redigolo@unesp.br Raul de Azevedo Carvalho raul.carvalho@unesp.br
Environmental information is relevant to discussions regarding conservation, sustainable development, and environmental awareness concerning the Brazilian Amazon through the organization, dissemination, and access to information made possible by Information Science. The objective is to conduct a survey of scientific output on environmental information in the Brazilian Amazon in the field of Information Science using the Reference Database of Journal Articles in Information Science, the Scientific Electronic Library Online, the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations, and the CAPES Thesis and Dissertation Catalog, covering the period from 2017 to 2025. The methodology is characterized as exploratory and descriptive research, using bibliometric indicators such as authorship, institutional affiliation, graduate program, keywords, scientific journal, and year to analyze monographs and scientific articles. The scientific output on environmental information that includes the Brazilian Amazon as a central theme in the context of Information Science was identified as minimal, even though there is collaboration among graduate programs as well as institutions from different locations in Brazil. It was concluded that environmental information on the Amazon in the field of Information Science contributes to the organization and dissemination of information, aiding in the development of society and environmental awareness, as well as access to high-quality and authentic information.
2026-07-22T00:00:00+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://informatio.fic.edu.uy/index.php/informatio/article/view/596 Scientometric and thematic study of the production on ethics and privacy on Large Language Models of Artificial Intelligence 2026-07-30T19:00:43+00:00 Leonardo Agostinelli Pereira Pinheiro de Souza leonardo.pinheiro@unesp.br Ricardo César Gonçalves Sant'Ana ricardo.santana@unesp.br
As the use of AI chatbots has become more popular, gaps regarding biases, misuse of personal data, and the like have become evident. Due to their importance to society and aiming for their safe use, Large Language Models (LLMs) must res-pect ethical and privacy guidelines. The objective is to elucidate the characteristics of scientific production on ethics and privacy in LLMs, relative to the amount of articles produced in Computer Science and Information Science, and to analyze the most relevant themes and ethical approaches considered. Methodological pro-cedures: a search in international databases, computing articles by time period and area; topic analysis and clustering of abstracts using the Bertopic model. As a re-sult, a growing trend in the published volume was observed, with the majority of works in Computer Science, with timid participation from Information Science and Latin American papers. The topic analysis revealed eight clusters with varied themes, highlighting health and education. Ethical approaches prioritize a techno-cratic and micro-focused view of computing. It is concluded that greater participa-tion from Information Science (IS) in this area is necessary to bring about broader and deeper ethical discussions that remain valid in the face of the relentless evolu-tion of technology.
2026-07-30T18:59:00+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://informatio.fic.edu.uy/index.php/informatio/article/view/627 The theoretical approach to subject representation: contributions from the narrative literature review 2026-09-17T17:25:56+00:00 Lais Pereira de Oliveira laispereira2@ufg.br
It addresses the subject representation as a theoretical approach in Library and Information Science, understood here as a technical-intellectual dimension of representing documentary thematicity, integral to the information organization. The text examines specific aspects of the editorial process—such as author management, peer review, Open Journal Systems (OJS) administration, design and layout, XML markup, dissemination efforts, and applications for indexing—from a contextualized perspective. It seeks to broaden the scope of university-based scientific knowledge production and publication by framing editorial work more widely as a cultural process. Drawing on self-administered structured interviews, document analysis, and the author’s own professional practice, the study highlights gaps in training for academic editing and a reductive view of the role's scope, while also demonstrating the potential benefits of having stable, specialized support from the traditional publishing sector.
2026-10-09T12:57:43+00:00 ##submission.copyrightStatement##
