Mediation, Mediatization, and Disintermediation of Information: Contemporary Approaches

Abstract

Preface to the dossier Mediation in Information, which explores how libraries have transformed their role in response to the rise of digital technologies and misinformation. It examines mediation as a process that transcends traditional cataloging, incorporating algorithms, digital platforms, and the librarian’s role as a data curator. Challenges such as digital literacy, social inclusion, and the reliability of sources in an information-saturated environment are highlighted. The included articles provide reflections on information integrity, mediation in academic libraries, digital platforms, and epistemological foundations, emphasizing the need to rethink the circulation and appropriation of knowledge in the digital age.
